An American woman was crushed to death in New York by an elevator when it suddenly shot up a level before the doors had closed.
Suzanne Hart, 41, became stuck between the elevator and the shaft at her advertising company's Manhattan office at 10am on Wednesday morning local time, the New York Daily News reported.
A man and a woman who were also in the lift could only watch on helplessly as she was killed.
Firefighters had to stabilise the lift in order to keep it from falling before pulling the survivors to safety.
They then faced the grim task of recovering Ms Hart's body.
Many workers from the building were seen crying as they were evacuated from the building.
A colleague of Ms Hart's said she was well known for her big smile and wit, as well as for her crazy work ethic, often pulling all-nighters to reach deadlines.
