A Tauranga iwi and the Crown have reached the final stage of a Treaty of Waitangi claims settlement.

The Deed of Settlement for Ngati Ranginui was signed by Minister of Consumer Affairs and local MP Simon Bridges on behalf of the Crown at a ceremony at the Huria Marae in Tauranga on Good Friday.

The settlement includes $31 million and the return of some land, streams and rivers in the Western Bay of Plenty.

Mr Bridges says the settlement will boost Tauranga's economy.

If the deed is signed off by representatives of Ngati Ranginui it will passed into legislation in Parliament.
