A helicopter with a monsoon bucket has arrived on the scene of a scrub fire east of Whangarei.
The blaze, which has burned through about three hectares of bush near Pataua South, is thought to have been started by flares being set off into the scrub.
Fire Service spokesman Jaron Phillips told NZ Newswire the area was inaccessible.
The fire, which started about 10.30am on Sunday, has been fanned by moderate breezes in the area.
Mr Phillips says there is no risk to any property.
