Police say Auckland homicide victim Jayne Furlong may have been alive some days after she was first reported missing, as they seek clues to her disappearance in the 19-year-old cold case.
They are also seeking a man known as "Tommy", who was entered in her diary around the time she went missing.
The 17-year-old, the mother of a six-month-old son and who was working as a prostitute, was last seen by friends in Karangahape Road on May 26, 1993.
She was reported missing by her boyfriend two days later, on May 28.
In May this year, her skeleton was uncovered at Port Waikato, where it had been buried in sand dunes.
On Thursday, the Police Ten 7 television show reported that investigators had reports of sightings of Miss Furlong in Auckland after May 28, 1993.
Detective Inspector Mark Benefield says people should not close their minds to the possibility she was alive after that date.
"We've had some reports she was seen near her home up to as late as the end of May and, while we're yet to corroborate those, we'd like anyone else who thinks they saw Jayne after May 26, 1993 to contact us," he said.
Det Insp Benefield also made an appeal for a man only recorded in Jane's diary as "Tommy" with whom she may have planned to spend a night at about the time she went missing.
He also asked that if any of her clients remembered being with her on or after May 26 they should get in touch.
All information would be treated with confidentiality, he said.
It was likely more than one person was involved in her disappearance at some stage, Det Insp Benefield said.
Miss Furlong's now 20-year-old son Aidan and her mother Judith paid a visit to Port Waikato with a police victim liaison officer on Thursday.
It was the first time her son had visited the scene since her skeleton was recovered in May.
He also wanted answers as to why his mother was killed and hidden in the sand for so long, police say.
