An inmate has been charged after an alleged attack on a prison guard at Hawke's Bay Regional Prison last week.
The 30-year-old inmate is set to appear in Hastings District Court on August 7 charged with wounding with intent to injure, police say.
The officer suffered a fractured eye socket and cheekbone.
Meanwhile, three Rimutaka Prison inmates have appeared in Upper Hutt District Court on Wednesday over an alleged attack on a guard last month.
Arthur Briggs, 28, Hamiora Moke, 19, and Elise Tuese, 19, face charges of assault and wounding with intent, the Dominion Post reports.
The three men, along with two others, were allegedly involved in an incident where the prison guard was attacked after he went to the aid of a low-security prisoner assaulted by a group of inmates.
The three men were remanded to reappear next month.
Two other men, Regan Cross and Brock Norton, both 20, will also appear in court next month.
