Flooding has closed State Highway 1 south of Blenheim to all traffic but trucks and 4WDs as heavy rain pounds the Marlborough region.
The main road between Blenheim and Kaikoura was closed to smaller vehicles at Seddon on Thursday morning.
Overnight a large slip closed both lanes of SH1 at Ward, further south of Seddon, police said.
The New Zealand Transport Agency says it will review the situation at Seddon at 10am.
It is also urging drivers to take care on roads around the South Island because of flooding.
