Ebay is to remove listings for copies of Closer magazine featuring topless photos of the Duchess of Cambridge following "strong feedback" from its community, it has announced.

Enterprising users of the online auction site have been selling the French magazine, which is otherwise not available to buy in the UK, since it first hit the shelves last week.

Multiple listings for the magazine were live on the site today, with one offering a "buy it now" price of STG35 ($A55) with the seller "huni-pie" leaving a note reading: "closer magazine in french bought back from paris today has photos of the royals topless."

Another copy attracted 12 bids before it sold for STG31.01.

Today's injunction by a French court against further publication and sale of the pictures did not appear to slow interest by eBay buyers.

But eBay said it had decided to remove the "items" in response to feedback from members.

A spokeswoman said: "Following strong feedback from the eBay community, we will be removing these items, and are already in the process of doing so."

Twitter users have also been using their networking site to distribute copies among themselves.

User @kasabianite tweeted four days ago: "If any of my followers are in France id appreciate it if they'd go to the shop & buy a copy of closer magazine, i'll dm my address."

Another, @FraserStubbs, wrote: "I'm going to France to buy a few copies of Closer, does anyone want one?"
