Sarah Rodriguez, who goes by the name 'Wolfie'.

A US teen and self-described "werewolf" has admitted decapitating a dog and posting a photo of its mutilated body online.

Sarah Rodriguez, who goes by the name "Wolfie", is being investigated by police after the offensive picture caused widespread outrage online.

A woman in the teen’s town of San Antonio, Texas saw the photo and told police she believed her dog — which had been missing since January 2 — was the one in the picture.

Rodriguez said the dog was killed after being hit by a car and was already dead before she obtained it.

She said the dog was named Shadow and was owned by her friend, KENS-TV reports.

Rodriguez also told reporters she thinks she is a dog, and would never hurt another dog.

The 18-year-old has Tourette's Syndrome and suffered a head injury in a car accident when she was eight years old.

Her police record shows she has been charged with burglary and was once arrested at a high school for carrying a large knife on campus.

Rodriguez is also the subject of a separate investigation over claims her pet dogs live in unsanitary conditions.
