UK protestors angry about a supermarket chain's expansion have taken to sealing their arms in concrete and supergluing themselves to walls to stop the construction of another store.

The announcement of the 15th Tesco supermarket in a three-kilometre radius in the western English city of Bristol have outraged many locals who fear the chain is hurting independent businesses.

In protest a number of locals squatted on the supermarket site for six weeks, the Daily Mail reported.

More than 40 police officers were moved in to evict the protestors, one of whom superglued himself to the building.

Two more had to be removed with the help of sledgehammers after they encased their arms in concrete.

Protest organiser Claire Milne said she had received 2000 postcards pledging support for the anti-Tesco campaign.

"This area has a really unique character and is full of independent shops," she said.

"We don't want a supermarket selling rubbish, unhealthy food."

A Tesco spokesperson said the new supermarket would create more than 20 jobs in the area.

The chain controls around 30 percent of the national grocery market.
