President Barack Obama sends student to sleep

Television cameras have captured a US high school student appearing to nod off while he and classmates received life lessons from President Barack Obama.

The footage shows the teenage chorister yawning several times before his head starts to droop during the president’s speech at the Kalamazoo Central High School in Michigan.

The student, sitting directly behind Mr Obama, appears to jolt back awake when his classmates give applause.

But his attention quickly subsides and he again allows his head to drop.

Videos of the event have fast become popular online.

Mr Obama was speaking to the students after the school won a national competition challenging graduates to secure places at university.
