A couple picking mushrooms in a Swedish forest made an unexpected find on Thursday — a live kitten sticking its head out of the dirt behind a tree stump.
The pair began digging and found another two kittens buried alive in the ground in woodland about 34km east of Gothernburg, The Local news website reports. .
The kittens, two females and one male, were taken to a local cat shelter owned by Tina Karlsson. .
Ms Karlsson said she would nurse the animals back to health before trying to find a new home for them. .
"My heart bleeds for these little creatures who don't get a chance because of idiots without a heart or a brain," she said.
