Sydney landlord spied on tenants having sex

16:30 Thu Nov 24 2011

A 75-year-old Sydney landlord repeatedly filmed his tenants undressing and having sex in their bathroom by hiding behind an air vent with a video camera, a court has heard.

Bruno Silvolli yesterday pleaded guilty to several counts of filming and watching without consent, as well as indecently assaulting a female tenant, the Manly Daily reports .

Mr Silvolli was caught filming a couple having sex on 22 October after one of the lovers heard an electronic device switched on and looked between the bent louvers of an air vent to find Silvolli holding a camera.

The tenants called police who searched the Pittwater Rd granny flat the next day, seizing a video camera, digital memory cards and digital video cassettes.

Silvolli was arrested, but initially denied the he had filmed the couple.

It was not the first time police had been alerted to Silvolli's surveillance activities in the flat above where he lives with his wife.

According to the paper, he was first reported in for groping a female tenant's breast and exposing himself while she was putting washing on the clothes line in August 2010.

The woman also told police of hearing what sounded like surveillance equipment in the bathroom, and said she started getting changed in the lounge room.

The court heard Silvolli filmed the woman on no fewer than 27 occasions through holes drilled in the bathroom wall, under a towel rail and through the air vent.

Silvolli claims to be undergoing treatment for paraphilia and has applied to have the matter heard under Section 32 of the Mental Health Act.

He will be sentenced in Manly court on 19 January.
