Clayton Weatherston will spend at least 18 years in jail for killing his former girlfriend Sophie Elliott.
Justice Judith Potter, who delivered the mandatory life sentence in the Christchurch High Court, told Weatherston that he would not be allowed to apply for parole for 18 years.
Earlier today Weatherston expressed remorse through his lawyer Judith Ablett-Kerr.
