For chubby clubbers, anxiety about getting beyond the velvet rope of a nightclub may be a thing of the past.

Fox News. reports that venues catering for America's growing obese population are springing up around the US.

The plus-sized nightclubs offer the chance for the overweight to mingle and dance without feeling self-conscious about their size.

California’s Club Bounce caters specifically for overweight people who previously might have felt snubbed by "fattist" door staff.

"When you're not what they consider ideal, you know, and you're out there trying to get your dance on at those other places, you get the looks, the stares," Club Bounce patron Vanessa Gray was quoted as saying.

"But not here — everything's accepted here."

Club Bounce attracts equal parts men and women but while most of the women are overweight, only a quarter of the men are.

Debate has flared in the US around the 'fat acceptance movement', with questions raised as to whether plus-sized nightclubs discourage people from losing weight.
