Never before seen photographs of the aftermath of the World Trade Centre attacks have been released more than eight years after the horrifying 2001 incident.

The shots, obtained by ABC News through a Freedom of Information Act request, show the burning buildings collapse amid huge plumes of smoke following the tragic terrorist acts that claimed 2752 lives.

These images are a selection of thousands obtained by the news network and were all taken by the New York Police helicopter.
