A tornado has hit Auckland with at least one person reported dead after the twister ripped the roof off a suburban shopping mall.
Police and ambulance officers have confirmed people were injured when the tornado struck the North Shore suburb of Albany, savaging the Albany MegaCentre shopping mall, around 3.15pm Tuesday.
The tornado caused widespread damage with winds of up to 200kmh. (AAP)
