Torrential rain has caused flash flooding in Sydney's west and the Illawarra, with more than 100mm falling in the space of an hour in some places.
Readers sent in photos of the damage wreaked by the masses of water, which saw homes inunduated and cars swept away.
The SES used boats to evacuate houses with floodwaters reaching heights of up to a metre.
The Bureau of Meteorology also put out flood warnings for the far south coast.
