The last batch of New Zealand soldiers to serve in Afghanistan left yesterday, including two dozen who will be there to organise the withdrawal.

About 140 service men and women will be part of the 21st six-month deployment to Afghanistan before New Zealand's Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) is withdrawn in April next year.

The New Zealand Defence Force invited media to Christchurch and Ohake to capture the goodbyes and see the soldiers kits and weapons.
