Three people were killed and seven injured when a tornado hit Auckland shortly after midday while another tornado has been reported in Rotorua this afternoon.

A Fire Service communications spokesman told NZ Newswire the pair were killed when a concrete slab landed on a truck in Hobsonville.

The Rotorua tornado reportedly brought down hundreds of trees in the area and forty children were evacuated from Mokoia Intermediate.
Adults who were at a horse riding class and were also evacuated to a property on Sunnex Rd to make sure they were safe.
