An Australian feminist visiting New Zealand has said she believes "raunch culture" has set women in Western societies back by more than 50 years.
Melinda Tankard Reist believes we're raising children in a pornographic landscape, NZPA reported.
"I think we have gone backwards," she told media.
"Raunch culture has taken us back. It's an absolute tragedy. These were issues being raised by feminists in the 1950s and 60s."
Ms Reist is group founder of Collective Shout, an organisation which names and shames companies that use sexual images of girls.
She also said girls today "think that empowerment lies in their ability to be hot and sexy".
The staunch feminist is a controversial figure in Australian because she opposes abortion and has written two books about it.
Ms Reist will speak this week at a conference in Auckland run by Christian-based lobby group Family First.
Do you think raunch culture has set women back by 50 years? Have your say.
