The driving age has officially increased from 15 to 16.
The increase in driving age, which happened on Monday, is being seen as a way to start changing attitudes among young motorists, according to media reports.
Rural Women of New Zealand president Liz Evans told media the older people are before they get the behind the wheel, the more they'll learn and understand.
She said she hoped "that extra year might just make the difference between life and death for some."
Do you think the increase in driving age will lead to fewer fatalities on the roads? Have your say.
