Teens must now be 16 before they get behind the wheel

The driving age has officially increased from 15 to 16.

The increase in driving age, which happened on Monday, is being seen as a way to start changing attitudes among young motorists, according to media reports.

Rural Women of New Zealand president Liz Evans told media the older people are before they get the behind the wheel, the more they'll learn and understand.

She said she hoped "that extra year might just make the difference between life and death for some."

Do you think the increase in driving age will lead to fewer fatalities on the roads? Have your say.

i doubt raising the age will reduce anything. young people are going to drive regardless.does the government really think young kids give a toss about what they enforce? theyl get behind the wheel anyways. its just a matter of wether they get caught or not.
Rasing the age to 18+ would be better. Why do you want your baby to learn how to drive so young in life. Let them grow up first. 18+ should be the legal age for everything. That way they can learn to earn the right way. My four children started driving, drinking and smoking at 18+ because that was my rule. They got their licence at 16+ but wasn't allowed to drive tell 18+ and non were allowed to drink and drive tell 18+. They called me a hard mum. My babies made it to there 21st and im proud cause I kept them Safe tell they were old enough to make safe choices. The dont drink and drive because I pick them up. Its simple just be Safe Parents and you well have children who well make safe choices in their lives.
OH PLEASE. How the heck is raising the driving age to 20 blimin 5 going to help anyone? May i remind you kindly, sir or ma'am, that old people are actually a huge cause to deaths on the road. Stupid young peoples mistakes that lead to deaths through abusive control of a vehicle does not mean that all young people are like this, in fact most of them are really really not! You do not know the young people well enough if you want to take away such a vital way of transport in these MODERN times. WE have to get to Uni, or school or work. Our parents work! they are busy - example both of my parents work fulltime and are incredibly busy on top of that raising two childeren and taking care of a household. I am not going to watch older citizens take lives and have young people punished or be punished myself for a minority of ignorant *** that have to pay the price anyway. p.s Voting is deciding what happens to our country and who takes careof us. driving is a means of transport!DAMNSTRAIGHT
CERTAINLEY NOT. its not the raising of the age that will make a difference its the way they handle the car .Some kids these days just use a car to show off at there mates, like i can go faster then you until im dead or someone else.
Well, I think this is a good idea though tbh it should be raised to 17... 15 and 16 year olds do not have the right maturity level to deal with driving a car and the safety in entiles. But this is a start
RAISING THE DRIVING AGE WILL NOT MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!!! WE NEED TO RESTRICT THE AMOUNT OF HORSE POWER THE DRIVER IS ALLOWED TO DRIVE FROM AGE 15 TO 23..BY THEN ALL BOY RACER ATTITUDE WILL HAVE GONE .. ZERO ALCOHOL TOLERANCE..OR DRUGS.. IF CAUGHT LOSS OF LICENCE FOR A YEAR AND DRIVING SCHOOL . ITS THE ONLY WAY
Changing the driving age is soo *** because teens that were about to turn 15 will not want to wait and will drive without a license without any education on road safety or rules. It will not decrease the death toll but make it higher because of all the 15 year olds that couldnt make it to get their licenses will drive around without a license and carry passengers and BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM goes the car and 5 people die per car crash. IMAGINE THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i dont see why cars can go fast, like if speed limit is 100 at max, why can cars go faster..i think that if speeding wants to be stopped, all cars need to only be able to go 100. then stock cars can be at a max of 160+ or whatever
I think 16 is still too young. There needs to be some more strict rules to make a difference and the government need to start being more strict. Young people are still young and have not yet learnt to be responsible. Until the strickter rules nothings going to change!
Just what i think . If you cant vote tell you are 18 then why can you drive at 16 shouldnt it be the same age as voting 18????????
