Goodman Fielder recalls sandwiches

AAP

Food giant Goodman Fielder is recalling one of its sandwiches because it may contain the an illness-causing bacteria.

It has recalled the Deli Kitchen Sandwiches Gourmet Farmhouse flavour because of the possible presence of the bacteria Listeria monocytogenes.

The sandwiches were only distributed in the North Island and the recall applies only to the sandwich with use by dates of March 13 and Thursday, March 15.

People should not eat the sandwiches and if anyone had concerns after eating them they should contact a doctor, Goodman Fielder says.

Buyers can phone on 0800 368 052, for details of how to return the product and obtain a full refund.

The New Zealand Food Safety Authority says Listeria monocytogenes can cause flu like symptoms, diarrhoea, vomiting, headaches, fever and muscle pain.
