A Lower Hutt woman’s plan to raise funds by offering the highest bidder the opportunity to have their chosen design tattooed on her backside has sparked a craze on the internet auction website Trade Me.

Tina Beznec posted the ad titled ‘Your tattoo on my bum’ with the message: "You might think I am crazy for doing this! But yes, the winner of the auction gets anythingthey like tattooed on my bum!"

The Kiwi said she came up with the idea to raise money for a trip to Australia but 20 per cent of the final bid will go to the charity of the winning bidder’s choice. The current bid on her ad stands at $12,200.

Subsequently, more than a dozen copycat bidders have appeared on the website.

Nursing student Hannah Wesley from Waikato posted the message ‘Help the SPCA and tattoo my arse'and has promised to give half the proceeds to the Society of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals where she works as a volunteer.

Following the enormous success of Beznec’s ad, she decided to follow suit by putting her derriere up for auction.

"Sure it is going to hurt like hell but I have always wanted to do something to raise money for the SPCA," she told Fairfax Media. "I saw on the news the story about the woman in Wellington who is doing something similar and I thought `now there is a great idea'."

Marie from the Hibiscus Coast in Auckland has followed in Hannah’s footsteps and has joined the backside tattoo auction craze.

“Thought I would jump on the bum tattoo band wagon as well,” Marie posts on her ad.

“The winner can choose the design, nothing too big! I'm a single mum struggling just to pay the bills. (Like a lot of parents!) I have a special needs son. Please help! and I will give 20 per cent to the animals at the SPCA.”

SJ Parker from Wellington has raised more than $1000 by auctioning a portion of his rump for the ink treatment.

“I was laid off myself at the end of the year so have mounting bills,” he says on his ad titled: ‘Your tattoo on my bum too’.

“I've been offered a job teaching overseas shortly so got to get that airfare somehow. I too am willing to offer a portion of my backside as a canvas for the tattoo of your design.

“The winner of the auction gets anything they like tattooed on my backside.”
