Seven guitars made with wood donated from buildings damaged during February's Christchurch earthquake are up for auction.

The instruments were made by Bruce Pickering using materials from the Christchurch Arts Centre hall, the Southern Blues Bar, a Chester Street heritage house, the Deans' historic Homebush Station homestead, the Gunyah Country Lodge and Ohinetahi homestead in Governors Bay built in 1858.

The Trade Me auction will close on February 24 during a cocktail charity evening in Christchurch.

The Epicentre guitar, which features wood from all six buildings, has already exceeded $10,000 on the Heart Strings NZ Trade Me auction while the others have topped the $3000 mark.

Money from the auction will be donated to the Christchurch arts community.

An eighth guitar, named Kia Kaha, made using timber from the Lyttelton Timeball Station is not part of the auction but featured in an exhibition at the Canterbury Museum.
