The two men charged with murder of a Sri Lankan farm worker in a small Canterbury town have made a court appearance and will be kept behind bars until an anticipated trial.
Thuvan Prawash Sawal, 23, and Viraj Alahakoon, 33, both Sri Lankan-born and living in Christchurch, have been charged with murdering Sameera Chandraseen, 28, whose body was found in a burnt out house in Oxford in February.
A post-mortem revealed he died of injuries from an assault before the fire was lit.
The two men, who have also been charged with arson, appeared in Christchurch District Court on Monday, the Christchurch Court News website reported.
They were remanded in custody until July 6 for a post-committal conference.
