The name of the 36-year-old man found dead in his Auckland flat has been released by police as his alleged killer is set to appear in court.
Police say Dean Andrew Clark died in his Balmoral Rd home late on Tuesday night or in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
A 38-year-old man, who is understood to have been the dead man's flatmate, has been charged with murder and will appear in court on Thursday.
Detective Senior Sergeant Mark McHattie says the accused man was located in Remuera at 10am on Wednesday after police received a call from a concerned relative.
The New Zealand Herald reports that the accused was a community-based mental health patient and had moved into the flat just five days before Mr Clark's death.
The accused had been asked to move out of the property on Tuesday after his flatmate complained to their landlord about his "odd behaviour".
A post-mortem was being carried out on Mr Clark's body and police and forensic scientists were carrying out a scene examination.
Police were talking to friends of both men to gain details of their backgrounds and the circumstances leading up to Mr Clark's death.
"It's unclear how well the two men knew each other but both were residents at the address, one more recently than the other," spokeswoman Noreen Hegarty said.
