Up to 50 firefighters are at a Wellington meatworks following a "significant explosion" at the processing plant.
Firefighters were called to Taylor Preston in Ngauranga Gorge about 12.30pm on Monday, Fire Service central communications spokesman Murray Dunbar told NZ Newswire.
Mr Dunbar says no injuries had been reported and all staff at the meatworks have been accounted for.
It appeared the explosion, which Mr Dunbar described as "significant", had come from a dryer and firefighters were now cooling the appliance.
No fire had been reported.
A Taylor Preston representative said the company would not be commenting on the incident.
