Police have confirmed that the body of a woman found in the Waikato River is that of a Hamilton woman whose 4WD plunged into the river nearly eight weeks ago.
Korean-born Eunki Kim, 40, disappeared after her Toyota Surf vehicle went off Hamilton's Pukete Bridge into the river on June 6.
A witness reported someone struggling in the water near the vehicle but searchers were unable to find her.
Her body was found trapped in foliage on the river bank near Mercer last week and formally identified as Mrs Kim on Wednesday following a forensic examination.
"Given the state the body was found in we were prevented in being able to carry out an immediate identification," Detective Senior Sergeant Karl Thornton said in an earlier statement.
Police are not looking for anyone else in connection to the accident.
