A 25-year-old man has appeared in court charged with manslaughter following a hunting accident in Southland earlier this year.
Blair John Davidson appeared in Invercargill District Court on Friday afternoon.
He's charged with failing to take reasonable precautions while in control of a rifle, causing the death of Mark Richard Vanderley on April 29 this year.
Davidson has been remanded on bail without plea, the Southland Times reports.
He will reappear in court on November 12.
Davidson and a group of friends had been spotlighting for deer using a vehicle on a remote farm at Cattle Flat when Mr Vanderley was shot.
Police said he died instantly.
