A post-mortem examination has been completed on a man, believed to be in his 20s, killed in a hit-and-run accident in Christchurch during the weekend.
The man's name is expected to be released on Tuesday.
An 18-year-old driver appeared in court on Monday morning, charged with failing to stop after the fatal crash on Shands Road in the suburb of Hornby at about 11pm on Saturday.
Burnham welder Harry Philip Silcock was granted bail and will reappear in Christchurch District Court on October 1.
Silcock came forward on Sunday night after police appealed for information about the crash.
A decision on whether any further charges will be laid isn't likely to be made until early next week, once all the evidence has been examined.
No one else has been charged, although police have interviewed the driver of another vehicle at the scene.
Forensic examinations of the cars will continue on Tuesday.
Police can't say whether they think the cars were racing.
Three other people were reportedly injured in the crash. One man, also in his 20s, was taken to Christchurch Hospital with leg injuries.
Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Murton said police were also looking for the driver of a car involved in a second Christchurch hit-and-run at the weekend.
A pedestrian, a man in his 20s, received multiple serious injuries after being struck by a car outside Burger King in Moorhouse Ave, central Christchurch.
"We haven't spoken to the driver yet but we're fairly sure who he is," Det Sen Sgt Murton said.
He said the victim was still in hospital but should make a full recovery.
