Wellington police have referred the death of a woman, whose body was found in the town belt earlier this year, to the coroner.
Sofia Helen Athanassiou, a 39-year-old mother of two, was discovered by joggers in bushy scrub near a popular walking track in Mt Victoria in July.
The initial post-mortem showed she had some minor injuries, but did not provide conclusive evidence on how she died.
Subsequent pathology results also proved inconclusive, a Wellington police spokesman said.
The death had been transferred to the coroner and police were no longer investigating
The coroner's office has yet to decide whether an inquest will be held, or when it might be.
Reports around the time of Ms Athanassiou's death said she used to walk closely behind a man, thought to be her partner, for the past 10 years.
She often had her hair pushed forward to hide "severe black eyes, a caved-in face and facial wounds", one woman said.
