One person is dead after a van hit a bridge in Southland.
Emergency services were called to the scene, near Mossburn, just before 7pm on Thursday.
A police southern communications spokesman told NZ Newswire one person died at the scene, while six others have been injured.
A St John ambulance spokesman said two people have sustained serious injuries in the crash, one of whom is being flown to Invercargill Hospital.
Four others have received minor to moderate injuries.
Police, fire and ambulance are still at the scene.
