A German magazine says a cargo ship carrying weapons for the Syrian regime has been stopped southeast of Cyprus.
Der Spiegel says the heavy military equipment and ammunition have come from Iran and are on the small freighter Atlantic Cruiser, which is owned by a German shipping company but registered under the flag of Antigua Barbuda.
The magazine says the ship departed several days ago from Djibouti, bound for the Syrian port of Tartus, but a government defector tipped off international authorities.
It says attempts to land in Cyprus or Turkey have been stopped by authorities and the shipping company has told the crew to stay at sea.
Chartering company Torsten Luddeke says the cargo has been managed by a Ukrainian charter company, which says on documents it's transporting pumps and related equipment.
