A young girl walks along the footpath talking on her mobile phone, completely unaware that the concrete beneath her feet is about to give way sending her plunging into a dark chasm.
A CCTV camera has captured the shocking moment an unsuspecting girl crashed through a footpath into a subterranean hole in the northern Chinese city of Xi'an on April 1.
The footage shows the concrete pavement give way beneath her feet before she falls six metre into darkness below the footpath.
A passing taxi driver who saw the drama unfold reportedly climbed into the hole to help the girl as a group of onlookers gathered around.
Wang Wei told reporters he climbed to the bottom of the sinkhole by clinging to a cable.
"I called out to her but she didn't respond. After I shook her a little, she came to," Wang Wei was quoted by the Independent.
Firefighters arrived at the scene shortly after and rescued the girl with a ladder.
She suffered only minor injuries.
