A San Diego student who has been paralysed from the waist down for most of his life fulfilled his dream to accept his high school diploma while standing up.
Patrick Ivison suffered a severe spinal cord injury after he was run over by a car when he was 14 months old, ABC News reports.
The Scripps Ranch High School student has spent the past three years preparing for his graduation, undergoing hours of intensive physical therapy to build his muscles and increase coordination.
Video of the ceremony on Tuesday night shows Patrick walking to accept his degree in front of a cheering crowd.
He was aided by his trainer and a custom made walker.
Patrick has also previously challenged himself by learning to kayak, ski, play rugby and even surf.
He plans to attend the University of Southern California to study film.
