A US woman reportedly told police she fled a traffic crash because she didn't want her ice cream to melt.

Flora Burkhart, 58, was heading home on Sunday night when she rear-ended a truck on a state highway in Arkansas, the Smoking Gun reports.

When Burkhart failed to stop, the victim, Derek Barker, followed her home and called police.

She allegedly told police that she "left because I did not want my ice cream to melt".

Burkhart also added that she "didn't think there was enough damage to the vehicles to call police".

Police issued her with an infringement for leaving the scene and driving too closely to the other vehicle.
