A motorist died and three passengers were injured when a road collapsed in central China, creating a 6m-wide hole that swallowed their car.
The road gave way in Hunan province on Thursday killing the male driver and injuring the passengers who were freed by rescue workers, the Guardian reports.
A man whose leg was injured and unable to climb the ladder the other victims used to get out was pulled from the hole with a rope.
The decaying road opened up a 5m-deep and 6m-wide chasm in the road, which took up an entire lane.
The cause of the road collapse is being investigated.
