A good Samaritan in New Mexico has saved two children who were inside a runaway van after her own abandoned car stopped it rolling towards a busy street.
Lezlie Bicknell, 40, parked next to a van in the car park of an Albuquerque convenience store on Saturday night when she noticed a child sitting in the driver's seat, KOAT reports
"I literally watched her shift it into gear. I knew what was going to happen," she said.
Ms Bicknell rushed to try and stop the vehicle rolling into the road and in her haste accidentally knocked her own car into gear, also causing it to roll towards the road.
Fortunately Ms Bicknell's car rolled behind the van and stopped it just metres from the road.
"I am glad that the kids are okay," Ms Bicknell said.
She said the child's mother hugged her and thanked her sincerely after the incident.
The parents of the children who were in the car now face criminal charges.
Ms Bicknell wrote on her Facebook page that the incident has haunted her.
"I just keep having constant flashbacks to that lil girls face staring at me through the passenger window and I was not going to let her die and if she did, I was going with her,” she wrote.
