Dolphin carries dead baby for days

Moving footage of a dolphin battling to keep her dead calf afloat has been captured by fishermen in China.

The calf was thought to be dead for at least three days when it was filmed in China’s Sanniang Bay being carried on the dorsal fin of its mother.

Fisherman Luo Lieqiangre said he and tourists watched as the 1.5m-long calf fell off its mother’s back several times.

"The sea was rough when we saw the dolphins," he was quoted in The Sun as saying.

The dead animal had a gash on its belly approximately 30cm long.

"The little dolphin was dead for two or three days, but its mother still stayed with it and carried it day and night, which has touched all of us and the tourists," Mr Lieqiangre said.
