A US man has been filmed jumping from a moving van and sprinting down the road to escape his alleged kidnappers.

Police released surveillance video on Tuesday showing the man somersaulting out of the black panel van and running towards police at an intersection in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The man, who has not been identified, told police he was kidnapped on the previous Thursday.

As the man was walking down the street, a van pulled up and a man inside asked for directions to a local bar.

When he said he didn't know where the bar was the side door opened and two armed men snatched him.

The man said he was then forced to take off his pants while the men robbed him.

He also allegedly heard the men saying they needed to take him somewhere to kill him, and they drove to a nearby library but there were too many people around so they left.

After seeing police cars parked nearby, the man jumped out at an intersection.

Witness Daniel Dozier said he saw the man sprinting down the road screaming "They just robbed me, help me, help me".

"I just saw this guy flying out of the van, running in his boxers," Mr Dozier said.

Police found the van dumped in a nearby street soon after the man alerted them to the incident.

An arrest warrant has been issued for one of the suspects, David Walker, who faces conspiracy, robbery and kidnapping charges.

Authorities are still trying to identify the other two men, and say all three are armed and dangerous.
