A UK woman has been arrested over claims she faked cervical cancer to pay for her $20,000 wedding with donations from fundraising campaigns.
Danielle Howard, who wed her husband Chris in April, was arrested on suspicion of fraud after donors became wary when she fell pregnant during her cancer treatment, The Sun reports.
Her struggle with cancer was highlighted weeks before the wedding when the 22-year-old appeared in her local newspaper appealing for donations so she could marry before she lost her hair due to treatment.
Ms Howard told the local newspaper that she was given a 15 percent chance of survival, the Daily Mail reports.
"A 15 per cent chance doesn’t sound a lot to most people, but to me it’s all I have," she said.
"I'm 21 and have my whole life ahead of me. I want to build a life with Chris and have children. I want to live."
More than 1500 people joined the "Fighting for and with Danielle" campaign on Twitter and Facebook.
Fundraising events were organised and TV presenters were contacted to give support, with TV chef Gordon Ramsay reportedly showing his support via Twitter.
Ms Howard has denied any wrongdoing and said she was confident her name would be cleared.
Police are continuing their investigations.
