Kate has taken a Boeing engine for a spin while William's thinking babies - two of them.

It was a day of candid revelations for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, who indirectly commented on their fish bowl lives by telling tiny fans in Singapore invisibility would be their choice as a superpower.

Catherine wore a white suit, cinched at her tiny waist with a simple belt, by British designer Alexander McQueen, the brand behind her wedding dress. She teamed the outfit with a pair of the black wedge shoes she favoured during her official engagements during London's recent Olympic Games.

"I love her, just love her," exuded one young fan at Singapore's Garden on the Bay.

Another asked the future king what power he would pick if he was a superhero, to which William replied, "invisibility".

When asked the same question, Kate also picked invisibility, claiming she would need it so William could not sneak up on her.

The Duke spoke candidly when asked how large a family he would like.

"He said he was thinking about having two," said spectator Corine Ackermann, 17.

The unrelenting heat failed to deter thousands of royal well-wishers on the second day of the couple's whirlwind tour of South-East Asia and the South Pacific to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II's 60-year reign.

Several people fainted as the mercury soared above 35C.

"Will, you're brill, Kate, you're great," chanted one enthusiastic group of expat kids.

The couple made sure even the smallest of their fans did not miss out, with both regularly crouching to shake hands and speak to those too short to get their heads above the barricade that stretched the length of the garden.

"She is very down to earth and lovely," said 13-year-old Charlotte Phillipson.

The Duchess, who has brought a personal hairdresser on the trip, even conceded to one young fan who asked about her curls that it was only a matter of time before her do "pouffed up".

Later in the day at a Rolls-Royce jet engine factory, William jumped at the offer to test one of the multimillion-pound machines.

But it was Kate who went first, tentatively putting her hand on the throttle while the plant began to rumble as the Trent 1000 engine, built for a Boeing 787 Dreamliner plane, sprang to life.

It was then time for a quick change of outfit, with the Duchess again giving the nod to local fashion by wearing a black belted outfit by Singaporean designer Raoul.

The delicate dress, of a sheer material made up of small coloured dots, was teamed with tan heels and drop earrings for Kate's visit to a housing commission project in Queenstown, named for the Queen's coronation.

In the afternoon, the royal couple were visiting disabled children at the Rainbow Centre before the Duchess again changed for a British High Commission reception at Eden Hall in the evening.

The Queen has personally selected much of William and Kate's nine-day itinerary, which also takes in Malaysia, the Solomon Islands and the tiny island of Tuvalu - but not Australia.
