Exotic dancer dies after falling off balcony mid-routine

A 22-year-old exotic dancer has died after falling from a second-floor balcony while giving a customer a lap dance.

Lauren Block was attempting a tricky dance move at Christies Cabaret in the US city of Cleveland on January 2 when she tumbled over a railing, the customer told police.

"He stated that she grabbed the rail, as he was facing away from the balcony, and she tried to complete some sort of dance jump/dance move, and accidentally went head first over the rail," a police spokesperson told Fox News.

Ms Block fell three metres, suffering major head trauma.

Police said two other unidentified men who witnessed the incident fled the club after she fell.

However, the incident is not considered suspicious.

Others saw Ms Block lying motionless on the pavement for several minutes, covered with blood, before emergency services arrived and transported her to a nearby hospital.

However, doctors were unable to save the young woman and today her family released a statement thanking the community for their "outpouring of support and prayers for Lauren."

"She has passed away but is an organ donor, and we hope this will enable her to save many lives and live on through others," the statement read. "We ask that the media respect our privacy during this difficult time. We know that she's in God's hands."
