A UK hypnotherapist has been jailed for filming himself sexually assaulting a teenage patient while she was in a trance-like state.
Philip Sherwin, 47, was yesterday found guilty of molesting the 19-year-old girl, who had sought treatment from him for anxiety issues.
Sherwin, who was also found to have had more than 40,000 images of child pornography on his computer, was jailed for 18 months at Leicester Crown Court, the This is Leicestershire news website reports.
The court heard that Sherwin had treated the young woman twice, gaining her trust before he asked her to take part in two free sessions as a "guinea pig" for new research.
During the sessions, Sherwin put his patient into a light trance and asked her to take off her trousers.
He then massaged her legs to "remove the energy" and touched her indecently.
Sherwin filmed the assault and also took photographs.
His victim did not know that she had been molested until police discovered the footage and contacted her.
In his sentencing, Judge Simon Hammond said Sherwin had abused the trust of a "vulnerable young woman".
"The defendant was acting in the capacity of a medical practitioner. He abused the trust of a woman who went to him for help," he said.
"He groomed her and created a situation where he could touch her and exploit her vulnerable state and filmed the abuse."
